I like to make leather box, my students told me, the bevel step is too hard to control----you must bevel a standard 45 degree of angle, and then joint the box perfect. Mr.Al.Stohlman taught us to use French edger, but it is really very hard for new player. Please take a look:
Now I figure out a way to solve this problem. Please look at this tool. It can clamp the leather and then use French edger, leather knife, or some other sharp knife to bevel the edge easily, take a look:
The material is Bakelite, This kind of material is hard but flexible, it can clamp the leather firmly without destroy the grain side. The effective length is 220mm, and the weight is 1.2KG.
Let me show you a short instruction how to make a leather box :)
Step1: Glue two piece of leather together and make holes with chisel
Step 2, use this tool to bevel the edges perfectly 45 degree.
Step 3: Glue them together
Step 4:sew as picture show
